The Eve of Change…

Posted: June 7, 2010 in Random Blurbs

Tomorrow I will wake up at 5 a.m with my beloved wife, call the hospital, and be told what time we should come to start the labor process. Talk about an epic day.

An event of this magnitude certainly forces deep reflection of the past and anticipation of the future. I think about how only yesterday it seems I was a child. In many ways, I still am. In certain ways, I’m extremely excited to re-live childhood through my soon-to-arrive son or daughter. Even to this day I’m one to laugh and play with children while the adults are off talking about “life.” Make no mistake that I will be my child’s best friend. This will not be at the expense of being a great parent, however… something I feel many parents screw up.

I think about all the fantastic advice I’ve received from family, friends, mentors and even strangers and how that hopefully, one day, I can pass it along to my child. We walk on the shoulders of giants… they say. That’s only true if you have the intelligence and wherewithal to notice greatness handed down from the past, understand it, and use it. That’s something I very much hope to do.

I’m thankful for how those around me have helped shape my perception of life and this world. There isn’t a day that passes where I’m not thankful for too many things to list on this page. What far too many people pass by and undervalue create my happiness.

Reading a book by the edge of a stream.

Admiring the astonishing visuals the peak of a mountain provides.

Laughter with loved ones.

Nature and all it’s awing spectacles that surround us every single day.

Quiet times.

Blue skies.

Our bodies and what they’re capable of.

The ability to learn and the unfathomable amount of information that is at our fingertips for the taking.

Truth and honor.

Self.

Life.

I appreciate the very things on a daily basis that I find many folks simply walk right past. This appreciation… this perception…. this way of life is something I’m beyond excited to pass along to my child. Life isn’t measured in time. Time is measured in seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years. Life, on the other hand, is measured by intent followed by action.

Tomorrow will be a great day.
